ALC Opens Its Dill Road Doors After Major Renovation

Groups of children and young people, from Tillydrone and beyond, are continuing to return to ALC’s Dill Road facility, after the building benefited from a major 14-month renovation project.
Our pre-school nursery children came back across to Dill Road in January, from St George’s Church on Hayton Road, where we’d been holding our sessions while our building refurbishment took place, followed by our Junior Youth Club.
Our youth clubs restarted last month, and this week saw our after-school club move back over from Riverbank Primary School.
The renovation work, which saw a mezzanine floor be added to the building, means we have significantly more space in which to operate, and now have a dedicated nursery, after-school and youth rooms, as well as meeting facilities and multi-purpose spaces. Our games hall continues to be a key feature within the building.
Reflecting on the renovation project, ALC manager, Angie Johnston said: “It’s been quite the journey from when we closed the doors on Dill Road in Autumn 2022.
“The team at Burns Construction has done a fantastic job and has done everything possible to make sure that we got the building we wanted.
“Even though I knew how it was all supposed to turn out, I didn’t imagine it would be as good as it is. It’s almost unrecognisable compared to how it looked before.
“We have so much more space and all our amenities have been modernised, so our children, young people and families will feel like they’re coming into a completely new club.”
The next step for the charity is to raise funds in order to fully equip each room with furniture, playthings and kitchen items.
Angie continued: “Now we have a brilliant building, it’s time to add to what we already have, to make sure that each room is fit for purpose.
“We’ve kicked off a fundraising campaign and are hopeful that Aberdeen’s business community, along with a number of trusts and foundations, will be willing to support us and our ambitions.
It’s an exciting time for ALC and we’re really looking forward to what 2024 brings.”
